Salmon Fishing?????????????

Posted by Admin

This is for salmon anglers to answer but i don’t understand why i can’t catch any? Its the time for the salmon run and i’m at the creek with the salmon eggs and a large hook and i still seem not to catch any and everyone else is doing better than i am. So could someone please tell me what i’m doing wrong?
I am fishing in a tributary creek that flows into Lake Michigan in Indiana

"…i’m at the creek with the salmon eggs and a large hook…"

Salmon eggs are small. Large hooks aren’t.

TESTIMONIALS
The fishing was amazing, and to eat the catch later in the day was spectacular. We both commented to one another about your friendly personality and exceptional Captain Skills, also noting that fishing from your boat was both stable and very relaxing. It wasn't a concern on your boat. Hope to fish with you again & thanks for the great memories."

Where is a good salmon fishing spot on the Genesee river near Rochester?

Posted by Admin

I need to find a spot to fish for spawning salmon along the Genesee river, south of Rochester NY. I need directions to a good spot as well, I’m from Ny but not familiar with both salmon fishing or Rochester. Plan on snagging a salmon in the mouth area, legally snagging one….

Snagging one? like jigging? Most Salmon rivers are Fly fishing only. Not sure about the US. You probably won’t catch anything if you don’t know what you are doing. Its not like catching trout. They don’t feed once the enter a river system and are extremely difficult to catch. It took me about a year fishing on one of the best Atlantic Salmon rivers on the east coast before I landed my first. The best chance you have is to hire a guide.

Fly Fishing Basics | Part 2

In part 1 of this short fly fishing basics series, Tim Gaunt-Baker talked about the synergy between the rod and the line; the meaning of the markings on the rod as well as the double taper and weight forward lines.

As a fly fishing beginner, the best line to start with is a weight forward line that matches your rod. Note, you must ensure you get a well balanced rod.

In this, part 2 of Fly Fishing Basics, Tim demonstrates both the correct way and the incorrect way of performing the roll cast and the overhead cast, the two building blocks of fly fishing.

What is the Best Fly Line Weight for Trout Fishing?

Posted by Admin

What is the best fly line weight for fishing for steelhead in northeast Ohio? And what is that best Taper? Weight foward or Double taper?

The fly line I would suggest for steelhead fishing would be a WF8F. If you break this down it means weight forward, eight weight, floating line. A floating line is your best bet for fly fishing and it is the only kind of line I use. weight forward will help you get your flies out there better. And 8 weight will match up with your rod that you are using, in this case an 8 weight rod is what I recommend for steelhead fly fishing.
